I credit my art to a lifetime of curiosity. With years of travel and living overseas, I inhale the bits and pieces of a foreign country: the exciting lure of the sights, sounds, smells, people, art, architecture, nature and history, in other words all a culture can offer. I record my inspiration with an iPhone and over time believe this slow absorption reveals itself in my work.
It all began as a child infatuated with the map of the world, creating a game with the names of countries, cities, rivers, oceans etc. The locations of exotic places and the roads that can lead you anywhere have been my visual delight in viewing maps for all these years. This latest series M.A.P. allows me to reacquaint with the concept of roads wandering over a shifting countryside, and experiment with the placement of the horizon line that plays with and reassures our mental perception of a landscape.
