Judy Calder is a weaver who grew up in Oregon but has been a California resident for over 40 years. She was introduced to fiber arts when her grandmother taught her to knit, crochet, and embroider. When finishing her degree at San Francisco State she became totally involved in weaving because it felt so familiar and comfortable. After graduation in 1989 she set up a studio in her home and has been weaving ever since. Her award winning work has been shown locally and around the country. While her weavings include scarves, shawls and blankets as well as tallit (Jewish prayer shawls) they also include fine-woven art pieces that range from "transparencies" to sculptural forms.
