My work explores landscapes both real and imagined, inviting viewers into spaces where memory, mystery, and place converge. As a child, I spent countless hours searching for fossils in the old rock walls that lined our farm, uncovering hidden histories just beneath the surface. That sense of discovery continues to shape my art, where each layer, line, and texture is a hint at something beyond the visible.

Painting abstractly allows me to embody the landscapes that inspire me and create new terrains that hold personal recollections. Similarly to how forces layer and shape earth’s landscapes, I use processes such as mark-making, collage, glazing, and scraping to change the surface of each piece. The tactile intensity of mixed media — tearing paper, mixing colors, and building up or removing textures — offers a freedom from the precision that was so familiar in my previous callings in science and editing, allowing me to transform each canvas into a landscape that evokes feelings of adventure and discovery.

These abstracted landscapes are tactile and visual memories of histories and secrets that lie beyond sight, embedded within each layer. Through my work, I hope to spark curiosity and a shared sense of connection to landscapes both familiar and forgotten, inspiring observers to find their own stories within each piece.

I am honored to have been awarded Best in Show at the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival 2024, and to have been featured in New Visionary Magazine, Issue 11.
